Abdominal Pain
There are numerous reasons for abdominal pain and gastrointestinal symptoms. They may be related to digestion, injury, infection or disease. It may come from an organ inside, or from the muscles or skin in your abdominal wall or it may have spread from somewhere else nearby. Most abdominal pain is short lived and self resolving. However when pain is persistent, recurrent or severe review by a doctor can be necessary and often investigations in the form of blood tests, camera procedures (endoscopy) and imaging are required.
Some symptoms to be wary of combined with abdominal pain would be swallowing difficulty (dysphagia), loss of appetite and weight loss. In these situations it is important that prompt investigations are carried out to exclude sinister causes such as cancers.
